    Commemorative Coin

    Dear Parents and Carers.

Representatives from Willerby and Staxton Parish Council joined us in school this afternoon for a very special worship. The Parish Council has given the children a wonderful gift to commemorate the coronation of King Charles III.

Each child in school has been given a commemorative coin. This extremely generous gift was presented to the children by Mr and Mrs Flower who were accompanied by Mrs Cooper. The choir sang ‘God Save the King’ to mark the occasion and the children also said a big ‘Thank you!’ To the Parish Council.

We are immensely grateful for this lovely gift and know that the children will treasure it for many years to come.

The children will be bringing their coins home today so please keep an eye out for them in book bags or coat pockets.

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you all on Tuesday 9th May.

    The Hertford Vale team.

    New Website and App

    Dear Parents and Carers.

The new website has now gone live. Most of the changes are behind the scenes in terms of operating software so you won’t see too many differences.

What will change is the Jotter 2 app. This will not work after the weekend and you will now need to download the Jotter 3 app from either the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store to receive news and letters from school.

We are sending a letter home with your child today with information about the new School Jotter 3 app. There will be a QR code and a six digit code for you to use to register the app. Over the weekend we hope most people will be able to successfully register on the app and delete the old Jotter 2 app.

There will inevitably be a few people who cannot register for different reasons. If you do not manage to register your account, please let us know next week. We will do our best to get back to you and try to help with the new app and we are hoping most people will get onto the app without any issues.

For a week or so we will send information and letters home with the children, just in case there is an issue with the new app so do not worry if it doesn’t work over the weekend. We will also use the text service to contact you if there is anything important we need to share.

Fingers crossed it all works, if not please bear with us and we will work with you to get the new app up and running.

    The Hertford Vale team.

    Coronation Picnic Tomorrow

    Dear Parents and Carers.
Just a quick reminder that we are holding our coronation picnic for the children tomorrow.
As mentioned before, we are giving the children a free picnic lunch to celebrate the King's Coronation this weekend.
If you do not want your child to have the lunch, feel free to send them in with a packed lunch as they will be able to sit with the other children at lunch time.
The children are expected to wear their normal uniform tomorrow so please do not send them in casual clothes.
    Thank you.

Dear Parents and Carers.

The first half term has flown by so quickly, where have the last seven weeks gone?  It has been a great start to the school year and we have been amazed by how well all the children have been getting on with life in school.

Many thanks to those parents and carers who are thinking more carefully about the parking situation before and after school.  We have mentioned this to some people directly and wanted to ask all those who drive to school to please be considerate about where you leave the car and how quickly you drive through the village and past school.  The infrastructure was never designed to accommodate so many cars and we appreciate it is very tight on a morning with regards to parking.  Keeping all our children and families safe must be a priority and we appreciate you making that extra bit of effort to think about where you leave the car.

During our Celebration Worship this morning, we were treated to a song from the Year 5 and Year 6 class.  Mrs Fardoe-Elliott and Mrs Wells’ class have been looking at World War Two as part of their themed work this half term.  They learned a two part harmony version of the classic song ‘White Cliffs of Dover’, originally sung by Vera Lynn in 1942.  They sang so beautifully to the whole school that some of us genuinely had a tear in our eyes.  It was a lovely way to end the worship and it set us up for the rest of the day, so thank you to the children in Mrs Fardoe-Elliott’s class.

Also, we want to say a huge thank you for all the chocolate donations.  They have been carefully guarded by Mrs Blogg all day and as far as we know, all the donations have survived intact.  They will be put to good use on the chocolate tombola stall at the Christmas fair next half term.

We have attached a couple of photographs of some creations made by children in Mrs Boyes’ class this half term.  As part of the class theme of ‘Under the Sea’, the children were asked to make a shoebox aquarium for their homework.  The examples you can see, as well as the other amazing aquariums in the classroom will be on display in the hall after the half term break.

We hope that you have a relaxing break and that you get to spend some time together with friends and loved ones.  School reopens on Monday 31st October at the usual time of 8:50am.

Kind regards,

The Hertford Vale team.

Dear Parents and Carers.

Attached are some photographs from the Harvest Service at St Peter’s church earlier today. As you can see the church was rather full with the whole school inside and we only just fit in, with some adults having to stand at the back!

The children sang beautifully, said their prayers respectfully and behaved extremely well. Reverend Tim Parker led the service and we were joined today by Mrs Archer who represented the church as well as Mrs Smith from the Diocese of York. Both Mrs Archer and Mrs Smith commented on how well the children had behaved and that they are a credit to the school and all our parents/carers.

We were also delighted by how many food donations came into school. We wanted to thank you all for being so generous, especially at this time when a lot of our own families are finding their budgets stretched as the weeks go by.

We hope you enjoy the photographs and as always please remember to keep them within the family.

Thank you.

Thank you,
Mrs Boyes.

7.10.2022

Dear Parents and Carers.

The children across the school have been exploring space this week.  Each class has looked at the theme of Space and have been creating art, performing experiments and even writing poetry about space.

As an extra treat today, the choir - Hertford Harmonies - performed in our Celebration Worship.  They sang the classic S Club 7 song ‘Reach For The Stars’ in front of the children and staff.  It was a lovely way to end the worship and they had us all tapping out feet along to the song.

We went outside to take a photograph of the choir and as you can see, the children were happy to see the new blue benches on the playground.  These were kindly donated by the Friends of Hertford Vale School at the beginning of term and so far they have been very popular with the children.  The last photograph is of the choir saying ‘Thank you’ for the new benches as it is an extremely generous gift from FOHVS and they will be used for many years to come.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

The Hertford Vale team.

Dear Parents and Carers.

Yet another week has flown by and we are nearly at the weekend.

Our Celebration Worship this morning was another chance to share the achievements of children from across the school.  So many of our children demonstrate our values of Love, Kindness, Respect, Peace and Resilience each and every day.  The classrooms are buzzing with happy children and it is a real joy to be able to spend time with them on a daily basis.

All the children in school were praised this morning for their behaviour and attitude towards others and how hard they are working in class.  Next week, we hope you will join us to visit all the classrooms to see this for yourselves as well as raise funds for the Macmillan cancer charity.  As always, we would really appreciate donations of baking from Monday onwards in readiness for the coffee and open morning on Wednesday.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

The Hertford Vale team.

Dear Parents and Carers.

We mentioned last week that we will be holding our annual Macmillan coffee morning on Wednesday September 28th.

We usually open the doors just after 9:00am for people to come into school via the main office. There will be tables set out in the hall for you to sit at and enjoy some of the baking on offer as well as have a tea or coffee.

At the same time the classrooms will be open for you to look round and to see where your children spend their days in school. It is also an opportunity for you to meet the other class teachers and to familiarise yourself with who is in which class this year.

We always ask for donations of baking for the morning, which can be brought in from Monday 26th onwards and any form of baking is welcome.

We are looking forward to seeing you on the 28th as it is a nice way to start the school year by welcoming families into school.

If you have any questions about the morning, please contact the school office.

See you next week,

The Hertford Vale Team.

Each class has been working extremely hard and as we go round the classes to look at what the children are doing, it is clear that they are already settled and focused on their lessons.

We have just sent you the Curriculum Maps for each class so you can see what the children will be doing this term. As you can see from the five maps, there is a lot going on and the children will be very busy over the next few weeks.

We wanted to let you know that on Wednesday 28th September, we will be holding our annual coffee morning for the Macmillan Cancer charity. At the same time, we are also having our open morning for this term. During the open morning, you can come into school and have a look in all the classrooms as well as have a coffee and cake in the school hall to catch up with people and have a chat.

As you know, school will be closed on Monday 19th September so we will see you all at the usual time on Tuesday 20th September.

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you next week.

Good morning.

As you may have seen over the weekend, it has been announced that the funeral for Queen Elizabeth II will take place on Monday 19th September.

We have received information from the Department for Education to say that due to the 19th September being declared a bank holiday, all schools and colleges will be closed on that day.

The DfE says, ‘The official date of the State Funeral is 19 September 2022. This day will be a bank holiday and settings that are normally closed on a bank holiday should close on this day as a mark of respect. This will include schools and colleges.’

We wanted to confirm this so that you have time to make arrangements for the day.

Thank you.

9.9.2022

Following the sad news yesterday of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, we wanted to contact you to inform you of what will be happening in school today.

Instead of the usual Celebration Worship, we will be holding a short remembrance service in school for the children and staff.  The celebratory certificates will be given out separately in classes later on in the day.

During our worship this morning we will be looking at Her Majesty the Queen’s life, marking her death, as well as celebrating her role both as a servant leader and in the life of the commonwealth.  We will be using resources given to us by the Church of England which are age appropriate.

Over the following days, we will be working with the children to process the sad news and to answer any questions they have and to help them understand the information they will be hearing on the news and conversations they may be part of.

Thank you,

The Hertford Vale team.

Dear Parents and Carers.

School reopens on Tuesday 6th September.  We are looking forward to seeing the children and all our families again.

The summer break has soon passed and we are already looking ahead to the events taking place during the autumn term, such as the Macmillan Coffee Morning later this month.  As events become finalised we will send details out on the school app, website and if needed via a paper letter.

The school gates open on Tuesday 6th September at 8:50am.  They will be locked at 9:00am until the end of the school day at 3:20pm.

Some of you will have noticed that the zig zag lines have been redone on Ings Lane to match the lines at the top of the school on Wains Lane.  Please respect these areas outside school and do not stop or park on them when dropping your children off.  We will ask politely for you to move on if you do, so please don’t be offended when we do mention it.

The school menu is attached in case you did not see the message last term.  The menu is also on the school website and is also available in the school office as a paper copy.  School dinners will now cost £2.75 per day.  This can be paid via your ParentPay account in advance so you do not build up a debt during the term.  All parents/carers of new starters in the Reception class will be given the details of how to use ParentPay next week.

We will be sending other information out over the next week or so via the app and website as questions come in and we need to let you know about other things.

We will see you next week and we are looking forward to working together to make the coming school year as productive and positive as possible for the children.

Kind regards,

The Hertford Vale team.
